Mark Mullen Seminar at PJ Jiujitsu Club

Image
Prof Mark Mullen @ PJ Jiujitsu Club Professor Mark Mullen was in town recently and we had the opportunity to host him for an impromptu seminar at PJ Jiujitsu Club. Mark started his BJJ journey with Marcus Soares and is a black belt under Josh Russell and is currently based in Vietnam ( K1 Fitness & Fight Factory ). After being formally introduced to all the participants, Prof Mark started the class with a quick warmup in the form of solo drills, involving lots of hip movements, and then went through some of his philosophies and concepts on escapes from inferior positions. He then showed us some techniques on how to avoid being controlled by your opponent when he is about to take side control position. This involves having to hand fight, redirect the opponent's head and then recover guard. PJ Jiujitsu Club at the Copa da Malasia VI (2017)

Image
It was a busy weekend for some of the PJ Jiujitsu Club members, as they participated at the Copa da Malasia VI Grappling Competition at Jaya Shopping Centre. Menard and Derek competed on the first day of competition, which was gi, while Nigel played on the second day, which was nogi. Menard fought in the blue belt masters over 75kg division while Derek competed in the white belt under 70kg division. Nigel played the masters blue belt nogi over 75kg division. This was their first taste of competitive BJJ. All three guys performed well, gained precious experience, and at the end of the day, we ended up taking home a couple of medals too! Thanks also to all the other PJ Jiujitsu Club's team members and friends who came out on both days to support our competitors! Well done boys!

PJ Jits at the Keenan Cornelius Seminar in Kuala Lumpur

KEENAN CORNELIUS SEMINAR @ MONARCHY MMA GYM, KUALA LUMPUR, JUNE 2017 American BJJ superstar Keenan Cornelius was in Kuala Lumpur recently (21/6/2017) for a massive seminar. Organized by Monarchy MMA/Hyperfly Asia, the event drew BJJ fanatics from all over Malaysia and also outside of Malaysia. Ive not seen a gathering of so many BJJ players (around 60 people) from various clubs/academies under one roof before! It was quite a sight. A few of us from PJ Jiujitsu Club were on hand to experience the event. It was a good opportunity to pick up some tips and tricks from one of the world's best BJJ player. Although I was a bit disappointed that Keenan opted not to teach his famous worm guard , but what he chose to teach on that night itself, what is known as " Layers of Guard Retention " series, was useful and maybe more applicable in a day to day normal BJJ game. PJ Jits member Yeap working on his guard retention So we had good training, and had great fun throughout the semin...
